Of course kids can play with radio controlled helicopters, but this hobby should be treated as a dangerous sport. I would rather be flying than sitting in the emergency room or figuring out how I will pay for someones busted window. If you are new to radio controlled helicopters there is a lot to learn. But don't worry it is fun to learn about your hobby.
There are all sorts of radio control toys but rc helis are by far the most satisfying to master. After you learn to pilot and build a helicopter you will probably never want to play with a rc car again. (Unless you are scooping one up with a hook and fishing line with your rc chopper). But there is far more to helicopters than meets the eye. There are many factors to consider before buying a rc copter. I will save that for another article.
Another fun thing to do with helicopters is to attach a video recorder to them and fly around. You can then upload the video to YouTube.com. Or just entertain friends with a "virtual" helicopter tour of your house, neighborhood, or a park.
Depending on the model of helicopter you may be able to fly it inside. I like to get small helicopters going inside the house. It keeps the boredom of winter and rainy days away. Of course use some common sense and don't injury yourself or others.
Fun with bull's eyes: get a slow drying paint and paint the skids of your chopper. You could even put some ink pads on the skids as well. Then practice landing on a bull's eye. If you attach a claw with a release button, you can do another thing with a bull's eye and practice dropping bean bags on the target.
