Kinect for Xbox 360, otherwise known as Kinect, is a controller free, totally body interactive, gaming experience for the entire family. Kinect is a camera and sensor that attaches to every Xbox 360 and enables users to control and interact with it using full-body movement, gestures and spoken commands.
In technical terms, the Kinect sensor is a horizontal bar with a motorized pivot to be positioned lengthwise below the video display. It features a RGB camera, depth sensor and multi-array microphone software which provide full-body 3D motion capture. The software technology enables gesture, facial and voice recognition. Kinect is capable of tracking up to six people simultaneously.
An infrared projector pooled with a monochrome CMOS sensor allows the depth sensor to see in 3D.
Kinect for Xbox 360 Features
• The game "Kinect Adventures!" will be included with the sensor.
• Color VGA Motion Camera: 640x480 pixel resolution @30FPS
• Depth Camera: 640x480 pixel resolution @30FPS
• Array of 4 microphones supporting single speaker voice recognition
• Fully compatible with all Xbox 360 models
Already Have Xbox 360? No Problem!
If you already own an Xbox 360 console, then you only need to purchase the Kinect sensor. It is fully compatible with all Xbox 360 models. However, because the Kinect sensor needs more power than supplied via older Xbox 360's USB ports, an additional power supply cable is included. This power supply cable will split the connection into separate USB and power connections, with the USB connecting to the console and the power supplied via an AC adaptor.
Kinect For Xbox 360 - When Can I Get It?
It will be available for purchase in North America on November 4, 2010, in Europe on November 10, 2010 and Australia on November 18, 2010. However, the voice recognition capabilities will not be available until 2011 for mainland Europe and Canada.
